I am making available a limited number of my HO Scale New
York Central & Hudson River Railroad 1876 truss-rod boxcar resin kits for sale.
These 29' cars would have been a common sight on eastern railroads from the late 1870’s
into the 1900’s, and likely ventured to all corners of the country at one time
or another. The design was taken from a line diagram in John White’s "The
American Railroad Freight Car" book. I’m pretty happy with the way they came
out, and I’m glad to be able to offer a few of them to the rest of you.
You can see more about how this kit was made by visiting the page about it here.
NYC Boxcar Page
These kits are made up of flat castings, and will consist of a floor, two side
walls, two end walls and a roof, plus a few structural parts and basic details
(brake wheel and staff, needle beams, truss rod wires). No super-detail parts,
trucks or couplers. Full instructions are provided on how to assemble the car,
as well as a copy of the drawing from the freight car book and a list of the few
necessary / optional detail parts and sources to finish the car.
I am selling these kits as described above for $15. I can include a set of NYC&HRRR
decals (same ones I use on my cars) or Boston & Albany decals for an additional
$2. Supplies are very limited, kits are made to order when requested. I will try
to fill as many orders as I can until the molds are exhausted, after which there
will be no more kits available. If the demand warrants it I may set up another
production run, but I’m not expecting that.
Please contact me at
craig@housatonicrr.com if you want
to purchase one or more kits.
Do not send any payment until you have contacted me and confirmed that I
have a kit to sell to you. I will give instructions on where to send payment
(check, money order or Paypal) and then I’ll send the kit after payment clears.
I am also interested in the possibility of a car exchange, swapping one kit for
another. If you have a home-made kit you would like to trade for one of
these boxcars please let me know.
Thanks, and I hope you like these cars as much as I do.
Notes about these kits:
I am not a professional modelmaker and do the best work I can, but do not
expect professional results. These kits will build up into a nice looking car
but it is a craftsman type kit and will require a bit of work to get the
best results. The backs of the castings may need to be sanded to get the walls
to an even thickness. There may be small trapped air bubbles in some of the
castings. In most cases these bubbles will not show on the finished model, but a
few may require minor filling and sanding. I’ll send the best castings I have
available at the time of your request.
The underframe is not strictly prototype but isn’t readily seen. The included
diagram of the car will show how to build a floor closer to scale from Styrene
if that is important to you.
